Project Parameters 1
Having provided my project with both title and logo, I moved on to my next task, namely the devising of parameters. I settled upon the following.
With regard to the multimedia work of art:
i] All visible surfaces should be either white or black [or at a push grey], and in terms of overall coverage, white and black should be roughly equal. This to reflect the concept of dualism, so influential upon my theory of everything.
ii] All materials used should be a] hardwearing, I wanted the artwork to endure; b] vegan, I am not a vegan, nevertheless, I wanted the artwork to be free of other animal suffering and or death; c] ethically sourced,
a tricky term and one I always asked the artist concerned to interpret, in essence an attempt to minimise any and all forms of exploitation involved in the production of all materials used.
Project Parameters 2
With regard to the Two Wolves Project, all contributors:
i] should be resident in Scotland. As my mother was Scottish, as I am half Scottish, and as I have lived in [various parts of] Scotland for much of my adult life, I wanted the Two Wolves Project to be a Scottish project, and the multi-media work of art which the Two Wolves Project produces, to be a Scottish multi-media work of art.
ii] should be individuals as opposed to a firm. What I did not want, was quick, machine-made, soulless efficiency; what I did want, was slow, handmade, soulful artisan artistry.
iii] should be willing to accept a considerable degree of artistic licence. This mainly because, as I knew nothing about any of the many disciplines involved in the Two Wolves Project, I was therefore reluctant to try and offer guidance, but mainly because I wanted all component parts of the Two Wolves Project to reflect both the skills and the character of their creator.
iv] should agree to be part of a team, i.e. be willing to collaborate with any/all other Two Wolves Project contributors
v] should agree to accept, that in the highly unlikely event of the artwork being sold for a profit, that profit will
be divided in the following manner:
All 9 contributors to the Two Wolve Project [i.e. calligrapher, illustrator, text writer, bookbinder, woodcarver, weaver, film crew, social media/website person, project organiser] to receive one share each. Film crew to receive an extra half share, as they are several. Calligrapher to receive an extra half share, as her workload was prodigious.
With my list of parameters complete, I was finally ready to begin creating my multi-media work of art, i.e. a hand-written, hand-illustrated and hand-bound white and black book, wrapped in a hand-woven piece of white and black cloth, stored in a hand-carved
